The effect of resistance training and walnut oil consumption on some oxidative stress parameters in athletes

Abstract
Background and Purpose
The increase in the production of free radicals is caused by improper nutrition and intense and unusual physical activities, and antioxidants are the most important defensive line against free radicals. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of resistance training and consumption of walnut oil on the oxidative stress parameters of CAT, SOD, and ROS in athletes.

Materials and Methods
The present study was applied in terms of purpose and was conducted in the form of a four-group experimental study (Group 1: walnut oil consumption, Group 2: resistance training, Group 3: walnut oil consumption + resistance training, Group 4: control) in 40 female athletes aged 25 to 35 years. The dependent t-test was used to examine intra-group changes and the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used for inter-group comparisons in SPSS version 25 software at a significance level of 0.05.
Findings
A significant difference was observed in the SOD variable in the walnut oil group, the walnut oil + resistance training group, and the resistance training group compared to the control group (P₌0.02). Similarly, a significant difference was observed in the CAT (P₌0.01) and ROS (P₌0.01) variables compared to the control group.
Conclusion
According to the results of this study, it seems that walnut oil consumption increase antioxidant capacity and reduce cellular damage by reducing ROS, improving cellular activity and reducing muscle damage.
