Comparison of the body composition response of obese children to exercise training based on the genotype of the polymorphism rs266729 of the ADIPOQ gene

Abstract
Objectives: Genetic differences among individuals influence the outcomes of nutritional and pharmacological interventions for weight loss. Therefore, identifying these variations and understanding their interactions with each other and with environmental factors is crucial for designing appropriate interventions for the treatment or prevention of obesity. The aim of the present study was to compare the body composition response of obese children to exercise training based on the rs266729 polymorphism of the ADIPOQ gene.
Material & Methods: This study was conducted on 40 obese boys with a BMI z-score greater than 2. The genotypes for rs266729 were determined using the PCR-RFLP method. The enzymatically digested products were analyzed on 2% agarose gel, and the resulting fragments were examined. The subjects performed exercise training for 8 weeks and their body composition changes were compared based on the genotype of each group. Two-way ANOVA was used to compare variables between genotypes using SPSS v.24 software.
Results: As a result of exercise training, the greatest reduction in body mass and WHR was seen in boys with the GC genotype, and boys with the CC genotype had the greatest reduction in body fat percentage (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The presence of the G allele in rs266729 may be an unfavorable factor in the lack of response to 8 weeks of exercise training in the body composition of obese children, while the C allele in rs266729 may help improve health status by increasing serum adiponectin levels and reducing the risk of metabolic diseases.
