Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effect of Non-Local Muscle Fatigue (NLMF) in functional conditions on force and electromyographic activity of knee muscles in professional footballplayers.
Metodology: 10 healthy male professional footballer players participated in this study voluntarily. After determining dominant leg,1- maximum repetition (1RM) of both legs calculated, then 1RM, the onset of electrical activity of the vastus medialis obliqus /vastus lateralis (VMO / VL) during jumping and the VMO / VL electrical activity, at the moment of contact with the ground on single leg, before and after the fatigue protocol with the dominant leg (3 sets of 3 minutes bend and open the knee with 25% 1RM and immediately after the third set, jump on one foot for 2 minutes with maximum effort) , Were compared in both legs and dependent t test or Wilcoxon were used to examine the changes.
Results: After the fatigue protocol, 1RM of both legs decreased significantly (P = 0.00), while the onset of VMO / VL did not change significantly in both legs (P = 0.26, P = 0.49) and the ratio of VMO / VL electrical activity at the moment of contact with the ground, significantly decreased in the dominant (trained) leg (P = 0.005), but did not change significantly in the opposite leg (p = 0.22).
Conclusion: NLMF in functional conditions reduced 1RM in the nondominant leg while there is no intervention in the ratio of the onset of activity and the electrical activity of the muscles around the knee.
